The Imperial Codex is the book of purpose and law of the Thiran Empire. Every inhabitant is granted a copy on integration: it sets out the statutes that govern planets, species and the Void, the beliefs that give the Empire its purpose in the cosmos, and the science and philosophy it uses to bridge the calculable universe and the conscious mind. It is a living document — as the Empire’s understanding of reality grows, the Codex is revised and each version carries its number. Read it to understand the world the Chronicles are set in: the rules its heroes live by, and the ones they break.
